ZNFI is the annual international festival of experimental sound and noise, organized in the first weekend of June (friday + saturday) with pre-fest and post-fest dates in other cities/towns, with the main festival event @ Vašhava RTH, Trbovlje, Slovenia.
Vašhava is a part of an old decommissioned building that was used by the coal miners as a washroom, with showers and chains that were used for the purpose of hanging their dirty/clean clothes (black/white room). Series of chains add to the uncanny visual aspect of the space itself, its industrial impetus, which works extraordinarily great with the festival’s noise aesthetics.
International festival started in 2014, as an outlet for supporting and disseminating the experimental and noise culture. Hosting various projects/bands/performers/sound activists who explore the sonic worlds, ranging from the fields of minimal, experimental, harsh electronics/noise, field recordings, (dark) ambient, drone, industrial, power electronics, shitnoise, doom, performance/body actionism, A/V noise artists etc., including all the cross-genres of various kind, keeping in mind the possibilities of extreme/heavy sound processing and/or experimentation.
